Online Associates Degrees For All Venues

Parenting for Progressives is an online course that aims to teach students how to examine modern parenting in specific political, economic and historical contexts. Not intended as a how-to associate degree education online, the course provides progressive parents a forum for looking at parenting issues in political terms. Lectures and readings, which examine the institutional and cultural backgrounds of parenting, are gathered from anthropological and sociological journals, political essays, and magazine articles. The course is offered through the learning online university.

My class has no particular meeting time. Regularly participating students currently live in Colombia, Japan, Australia, Alaska, Wyomingand Massachusetts. Three quarters-men and one-quarter women, my students range in age from early twenties to mid-sixties. Some of them are parents and some aren't, but they all signed up for my online course, "Parenting for Progressives," offered through the learning online university.

Hello everyone. My name is Jose Gonzalez and I live with my spouse in Toronto. I have joint custody of three great children from my first marriage and I am truly excited about this course. In fact. there have been some great benefits already: I haven't played one game of Yahoo chess (an addiction of some six weeks) since starting the readings for this course.

Learning On Line University (LOLU) is jointly maintained by two websites, ZNet and People-Link; courses are sponsored by a variety of progressive institutions such as Z Magazine, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR), the Union of Radical Political Economists, the Committees of Correspondence and South End Press. Course offerings include Racial Profiling, Organizing: The Lost Art, US Capitalism in the Twentieth Century, Media Analysis, A ReIntroduction to the Visual Arts, and Developing Economic Vision. Though these classes are not offeredfor credit, interested students can, if they wish, seek out sympathetic faculty who might help them arrange to take the class for credit as an independent study.

Not being associated with a university, LOLU keeps its rates low ($50 per class: $30 for low-income students). Rather than follow a typical pedagogical model of requiring papers or tests so that teachers can assess students' progress, LOLU classes offer an open-ended learning opportunity that allows students to decide for themselves how much they want to put into the course. With access to all the readings online, posted "lectures" and plenty of opportunity to interact with the faculty and other students, a LOLU class can be an extremely convenient, educational and self-paced learning opportunity.
